but I then came to realize that this task I must do. This will ensure that many of those people who struggled and persevered years
ago to make this town better and easier for me, shall never be forgotten. I am a true lover of history and this column will be
dedicated to all those souls who have gone on but did a lot to make Frederick a better place to live while they were here.

I may also cover black historical sites here and occasionally, someone living today whom I would consider an unsung hero playing
a major role for positive change.

I accept this challenge and I pray that you enjoy reading and learning about the many fellow black comrades who have gone on to
glory. As in the words of Thurgood Marshall when he was asked how he wished to be remembered, he simply stated, “I did the best
I could with what I had”. Our black ancestors, likewise, truly did a lot with the little they had.

Born and raised here in Frederick, I have a deep appreciation for the way the city slowly is evolving.
