In keeping with the theme despite our few blessed days of sunshine and warm weather what have you been doing to stay busy? Have you scheduled that visit to the museum? Well, as a young person in this community, it can be quite challenging finding good entertainment.
The other day, a close girlfriend contacted me to vent her frustrations of juggling full-time work, graduate school, and just everyday issues. I debated on what we could do to just relax and have fun, drawing a blank stare each time. Later on that day, I received an email about a girls’ only party. My first thought, we would all gather together and just cry our eyes out…me pouring some water on my face so I can still be included (Big Girls Don’t Cry)…. As the day progressed on, the excitement was building. We’ll have food, movies, games, homemade fruit drinks and our own concert! What more could we ask for?
Our evening allowed us to let our hair down, laugh at our self and enjoy each other’s company. While sitting back at one point, I thought about this treasure our community has that we’ve been neglecting. We do not always need others to entertain us. We were each graced with various gifts that when utilized in the right way can inspire and help others. Let’s slow down and give thanks for what we have in our lives. Call up a friend or two and have your own girls’ only event. It can be as informal as ours, planned in one hour, or it can be something on the calendar for once a month. It can be in the house with one hostess or done as a potluck. You can even put something together in Frederick. There are so many places to go and relax. Check out the Serenity Tea Room at 119 East Patrick Street or create a Spa Day utilizing our businesses that are located right downtown and across the city. Let’s not put our entertainment in the box.
A few good ideas…
