8’s Enuf-Carolyn P. Hall Scholarship Program
Published August 3, 2008
By A. Marie Whittimore, Education Corner Editor

This is the 4th in a series of articles spotlighting organizations that support education. On
Saturday July 12th, I had the privilege of attending the 18th annual scholarship awards banquet
of a social group called 8’s Enuf.  Founder of the group is Ms. Peggy Hill. She and seven of her
f friends formed 8’s Enuf in 1994.The signature project of the group is to raise funds, to award
$500.00 scholarships, to African American students to help defray college expenses.

Since the group began in 1995 they have awarded over 90 scholarships totaling $25,900.00.
Scholarship recipients have attended 40 different colleges, universities and/or business schools.
One winner attended West Point.

These women are to be commended for their untiring efforts to make higher education
opportunities a little easier financially for students. In July 1995, the group awarded two $500.00
scholarships. At the ceremony I attended 8 students received the Carolyn P. Hall scholarships.
Carolyn P. Hall was a founding member of the organization. She was tragically killed by a drunk
driver in 1995. The group got permission from her daughters to name their scholarship program
the Carolyn P. Hall scholarship program.

The 8’s Enuf group was recipients of BlackFrederick.com’s award for the Best Civic
Organization in 2007. They have also been recognized for their work by the Negro Business and
Professional Women’s Club and St. Paul’s AME Church.

This year’s scholarship recipients were: Vincent Moore II, James White, Amber Spencer, Bazarr
Jackson, Qiyama Graham, Whitney White, Antoine and Stephan Jordan. Congratulations to these
outstanding FCPS students and their families. Thank you 8’s Enuf for your continuing support
of high academic success.
